Pioneer Woman!!!

Ok, some of you may not know who I am talking about, but I am referring to Ree Drummond, the food blogger. I LOOOOVE her blog and all her wonderful recipes. Plus she is an amazing photographer too. Well she came to KC Monday night for a book signing supporting her new cookbook. My wonderful husband agreed to drive Kate and I down there so we could hear her speak and get our cookbook signed.

You know how some people after you meet them its kind of a letdown? Well that was NOT the case with meeting Ree! She was exactly the way I imagined her, funny and friendly and so sweet. I have said it several times as I have been talking to people, but she must have been SO exhausted by the end of the book signing (her second that day). But she was just as friendly and gracious with those of us toward the end as those at the beginning of the line.

Her husband, Marlboro Man, and her boy punks were there as well. (Kate was disappointed her girls didn’t come) MM was so generous with his time, he walked thru the crowd talking, signing autographs, and posing for pictures. Her boys were BEYOND adorable. It was a great, totally memorable night.

Here is a pic of us with Ree, if you would like to see more pics I took, you can view them on Facebook HERE

Time Tested Beauty Tips

I saw this on Stacy Julian’s blog just now and loved it, especially the first part. Aparently it was one of Audrey Hepburn’s favorite poems.

For attractive lips,Speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes,Seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure,Share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair,Let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.

For poise,Walk with the knowledge that you’ll never walk alone.

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed,Never throw out anybody.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand,You’ll find one at the end of your arm.

As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands; One for helping yourself,The other for helping others.***Sam Levenson

Balance in blogging

It is so easy to get caught up in blogging, just like any other hobby. I appreciated this post from the Happy Housewife. Here is an excerpt:

Free time.  What is free time? I once told my friend I can only do a certain number of things well at any given time. It seems if we are doing well with homeschooling and eating healthy the house is a wreck. If the house is clean I am behind on laundry. If the house and clothes are clean and school is going well we are probably eating Lucky Charms for dinner.

So where does blogging fit in to my jam packed life as a military wife and homeschooling mom of 7?

I like love blogging and people have told me they benefit from my posts. It is important to me to make time in my schedule to maintain this site. It is more important that I home school my kids, cook dinner, read my bible, read to my kids, clean my house, and do many other things. As long as I am getting the most important things done in my life then I think spending several hours a week on my site isn’t a big deal, because that is how I am choosing to schedule my time.

Schedule blogging? Yes… even my blog has to stay on a schedule or it would quickly take over my life! I try to write all my weekly posts on the weekend. This usually takes a few hours, since I am writing 7 to 10 posts. I then schedule them to post throughout the week. I do occasionally write posts throughout the week, but since Cora has been born I haven’t had much time to write during the week. I do try to respond to emails (although lately that hasn’t happened) and interact on twitter. But basically I am always behind.

Here is one tip I have for those of you blogging and struggling with a balance. Do not create pressure on yourself by participating in every meme, obsessing over stats, or relentlessly promoting your site. I can assure you that good, consistent writing will build readership over time. You will receive more comments, over time. A popular blog does not happen overnight (well it can, but those people are spending 60 + hours a week on their site). If the site is not your job then treat it like any other hobby in your life. Work on it when you have time but keep it in perspective.

I have been blogging…

…intermittently since July 19, 2005. That is SO wild!  And I am so thankful for the posts I have made, I have been having a blast the last few days reading old posts as I re- categorize some of them. The most trivial thing that has been captured is like a little treasure to me, reading it again now.
Shane spent some time this weekend redesigning my blog using a template I found and he then tweeked. I LOVE the clean and simple style and the fact that now you can search specifically for any post you may want to find.  See where it says “Navigate” in the top middle?  That is the super cool slide down area that will help you find anything you need.
Shane imported my Blogger blog over, and I am slowly incorporating it in this blog, but I am so thrilled to get it going again. I may also post some of the things that I have uploaded over at Facebook, since that has been my main focus of late, so I have everything in one place.

We shall see. But for now it is good to be back, and I hope you enjoy a glimpse into our family life, and find something that inspires you from the things I find in my Internet travels each day.

I have a few posts stored up that I am anxious to share with you!

Its so good to be back!

G1 !!!!!!!

after months of waiting, the Google phone is HERE!Pre sale started today after the big announcement and I finally successfully placed my order online just moments ago.  CAN . NOT . WAIT to get my hands on this baby!

and another call from a long lost friend

so my friend C called today.  Mostly cuz she was so jealous that I talked to S yesterday, and that I blogged about it, 😀

Actually, C and S are friends, and they were friends LONG before they were friends with me. Like IRL friends. But neither of them knew that the other knew me (thru the internet).  See, C was my
digi scrapping friend, and S was my Nelson loving friend.  One day, after S learned that I digi scrapped, (there weren’t a whole lot of us geeks back then) she sent me a layout done for her, by her friend, C.  C has a very unique and tell tale scrapping style, and I INSTANTLY knew it was her.

Both of them are dear friends now, I don’t know how I got along without either of them.  They both just totally crack me up.

It really is true ya know, it’s a small, small world.  Ok, now you will  have that song stuck in your head for the rest of the day too. My work here is done  🙂

Ciao

a safety PSA

So in my layout in the post below, you may have seen that we had a small gas leak in our home, in a pipe going to our hot water heater. The alarm seen here, alerted us (quite loudly) literally moments before we left the house to go to Shane’s sisters wedding.  I CANNOT recommend enough that everyone get one of these.

We bought this a year or two ago, because we have an older home, and I am a worrywart, 🙂
It is a combination Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas alarm, it cost us about 60 dollars. We put it in our basement laundry room, where our water heater and furnace are.  It is EXTREMELY sensitive, for which I am so thankful.  When the gas man came to check it out, he said at first that
the alarm must be malfunctioning because his equipment wasn’t reading any problem when he came in our house. It wasn’t until he was right up to the leaking pipe that his showed a reading.
And was about 10 minutes before the gas traveled upstairs, to where I had put the alarm on the kitchen table, and it went off again.  So I am fairly confident we caught it right as it began to be a problem.

Anyway, just a little FYI for everyone out there  🙂
